1. Railroad Park

Railroad Park features a whole wealth of activities. Visitors can ride on the Paradise & Pacific Railroad, the gorgeous and well-preserved antique Scottsdale Charros Carousel, and the Arboretum Train, which runs on weekends. You also can visit the arboretum, the Railroad Museum, and enjoy an elaborate display of model railroads. 2. OdySea in the Desert

OdySea in the Desert is a large family entertainment complex which includes major attractions, such as  Butterfly Wonderland, Odysea Aquarium, and Odysea Mirror Maze, as well as restaurants and shopping. With so many options, every member of your family will find plenty to do. Tickets to the butterfly park, aquarium, and mirror maze can be purchased individually or as part of a combination pass. So now there’s no reason why your family can’t do more in a one-day visit.

3. Papago Park

Take in the great outdoors at Papago Park, which features some of the area’s best family-friendly hiking trails. Test your aim at the archery range, play a game of baseball and softball on the fields, and visit the fishing lagoons (Arizona urban fishing license required). 4. Montezuma Castle

Montezuma Castle National Monument is a well-preserved, ancient cliff dwelling located in Coconino National Forest. It was one of the first four culturally and historically significant American sites to be declared a national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. Your family can learn about Arizona’s history and enjoy the beauty of the nature at this national park. Walking trails and picnic areas are readily available. Kids up to 14 years of age can even pick up a free Junior Ranger workbook at the Visitor Center, which is full of educational activities for young visitors.

5. Kartchner Caverns State Park

Kartchner Caverns State Park is a longer drive, but the stunning views are well worth it if your family is ready for a bigger adventure. Guided cave tours are available so you can explore the breathtaking caverns. The Discovery Center features activities that will appeal to younger visitors and, like Montezuma Castle, a Junior Ranger workbook is available for the park. If you want to make your trip a little longer than a day, there are camping and cabin facilities. Visit the park’s website for important information when planning your trip, as not every attraction is open to visitors year-round. Note that the cave tours are not generally recommended for children ages 6 and under.
